Preamble

Hardcore Software: Inside the Rise and Fall of the PC Revolution by Steven Sinofsky (affiliate link) https://amzn.to/43xSToa. My thoughts – A great read for anyone who greats products for a living or a tech enthusiast. As a self-proclaimed windows 8 hater, I found myself in a sympathetic position after reading the book. And aside from the Metro UI of Windows 8, I have adored all the products that Mr. Sinofsky was been involved with.

CoPilot chat URL – Go to https://copilot.microsoft.com

  • History started out as Bing Chat.
  • How is this different than Copilot for M365. Copilot for M365 is built into the specific apps to assist with the functions of that app. Copilot Chat is a stand-alone URL or chat bot that is broad in nature like Chat GPT and doesn’t haves access to the broader M365 platform unless you upload a file for example. Also, unlike Chat GPT, your data isn’t training a model.
  • What’s the big deal?
    • Easy String Manipulation (instead of using Excel)
    • Easy Power Shell Script Writing (instead of using Stack Overflow parsing the web for hours)
    • Write this darn formula for me (save time with Odata or Power Apps formulas by having the bot write it for you)
    • Generate a photo for my blog post

Tip of the week

  • Chat Bot explosion! I personally use Brave as my browser of choice and built right into Brave is an AI bot called LEO. The benefit, no installation, it’s just right there and can parse the existing page you have, or you can use it as a stand-alone bot. I primarily use this as a replacement from Grammarly since it’s free and for that price, it’s awesome. Just lower your expectations if you are used to Chat GPT. Here’s the link – https://brave.com/leo/
  • Apple Intelligence – I know this gets a lot of  slack on the internet but my prime time device is a 4 year old Macbook air and the right-click and proof read feature in Apple intelligence is nifty in a pinch. There is also a lookup and thesaurus built in at no additional charge. This update to my long in the tooth machine is just stretching the dollar and I am hoping we get something similar in Windows per the CoPilot announcements to Windows.
