Coming soon | Colored folders in your OneDrive folder visible in Microsoft Windows File Explorer

Hey All,

Mentioned on Episode 9 of my Podcast, OneDrive has a neat colored folders feature that is now going to sync with your local file system! Back when I mentioned this update I struggled to find a photo to show what this would look like. Today I have it shown below…

This is a neat feature because it can help you, at a glance see perhaps, mission critical folders right up front based on your team’s decided color scheme. Example, private folders listed in Red, or, draft versions, in yellow, etc.

The downsides of this would be, anyone who has edit rights can theoretically color these folders at will and overwrite your work. So I would not build any mission critical operations based on the color schemes. But I do see net efficiency gains based off this enhancement.

Big shout out to One Minute Office Magic for providing the screenshot below is a link to the site where this photo came from – https://oneminuteofficemagic.com/2024/10/04/coloring-sharepoint-and-onedrive-folders-in-windows-file-explorer/
